Mat Halverson has created a unique character, Concord Cunningham, who solves crimes and mysteries with the help of Bible verses. Containing twelve mysteries of four to five pages each, Concord Cunningham The Scripture Sleuth is reminiscent of the Two Minute Mysteries series of years ago. Concord runs into various situations with his father, a reporter for the newspaper, and on his own, in which he listens carefully and then provides a Bible verse that makes the solution clear. Readers must look up the verse in their own Bibles and compare their solution to the one provided in the back of the book. The book concludes with a section that explains "Concord's Secret," what a concordance is and how to use it.

Martha's Recommendation: Mr. Halverson has found a terrific formula that combines brainteasers with the Bible. While the mysteries are not too difficult, this book is FUN. It is a great book for family time or for a child to use on his own.

Mary's Recommendation: These two books are high on my gift-giving list--so popular with us that I keep a stock of them for birthday presents! My three children (now ages 8, 10 and 13) begged for me to read these aloud nightly--no matter how late it was. They enthusiastically dove for their own Bibles to see who could solve the mystery first. Both books are sure to create renewed interest in your children to become familiar with their Bibles. These short mysteries are a recipe for wholesome pure fun--you can't go wrong with these books.
