Christy Wade, author of Becoming Whole: Eating Your Way to Bountiful Health, shows how to implement her healthy eating plan with her new cookbook, Preparing Whole Foods for a Whole Month. Following the popular once a month cooking idea, many of the 150 recipes can be made in bulk and frozen for later use.

Mrs. Wade recommends finding a cooking partner to work with. This good friend will participate in all aspects of the preparation, cooking, and storing. On the planning day, recipes are chosen, tasks are assigned, and shopping lists are made, and on "prep day," preliminary cooking and preparation such as organizing ingredients, chopping vegetables, and setting up activities for children are completed. On cooking day, the partners cook and prepare food for freezing. The author has many tips and helpful ideas for success, with the importance of prayer at the beginning of each day receiving particular emphasis. Many ready-to-copy forms for planning and evaluation are included.

Recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks appear in the book. Breads; dressings and sauces; juices and smoothies; salads; soups; side dishes; entrees; and snacks and desserts are the categories. Supporting the ideas of George Malkmus, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and Dr. John McDougall, Mrs. Wade uses no meat and very few animal products. Yet, these delicious recipes provide all the nutrients and calories that a family needs.

Recommendation: Preparing Whole Foods for a Whole Month will make switching to a healthier diet much easier. If the family cook does not prefer the once-a-month concept, the recipes could easily be used for nightly meals with extras made for freezing.

Personal Experience: We tried several of the recipes and found them to be delicious and filling. As we have been eating whole foods for several years, my children are used to this fare, but they particularly enjoyed these new recipes. I enjoyed the ease with which they were prepared.
