Purchase details: Beginning Public Speaking, paperback, 57 pages, $14.95. Published by Latin in the Christian Trivium.

Beginning Public Speaking is a six-week course that is written especially for homeschoolers. This program covers everything about public speaking; how to deliver a speech correctly, how to properly write affirmative and negative persuasion speeches, and more. The curriculum includes a student workbook, a teacher's handbook, and a teacher's CD that includes worksheets and quizzes to print out.

The teacher's handbook includes icebreakers for the beginning of class, prompts, lesson plans, and other tips. The lesson plan is laid out by weeks; one lesson per week, with homework in between lessons. Each book begins and ends with a prayer, and the example speeches and outlines discuss controversial Christian issues, such as prayer at school.

Although written for homeschoolers, Beginning Public Speaking is definitely formatted for a classroom setting with multiple students. While it could be modified to suit one student, the nature of the course really requires a group. this program would be perfect for homeschool co-ops or church groups! The author supports the fact that most homeschooled students already have a full schedule, and keeps homework and extra work to a minimum.

Recommendation: Beginning Public Speaking is a user-friendly program that any student will enjoy. The step-by-step approach used in the teacher's handbook makes teaching stress-free.
