Hymns for a Kid's Heart offers the treasure of classic hymns to today's children. Co-authored by Bobbie Wolgemuth and famed disability advocate, Joni Eareckson Tada, each of the two books in the series teaches twelve hymns with interesting stories and music on the included CD. The hymns are grouped into hymns about God, Christian living, our home in Heaven, celebration and patriotism, truth from the Bible, and hymns of prayer for our country.

Each section of the book begins with an illustration and a story about the hymn composer's life. Next, Joni Eareckson Tada offers an inspiring interpretation of the hymn that makes its meaning more tangible to children. A musical score of the hymn follows with all verses shown. A Bible verse and a prayer end each section. A glossary at the end of the book defines words that may not be familiar.

The CD is in a pocket in the back of each book. The children's singing voices are clear and easy to understand. The music is highly orchestrated and powerful.

Recommendation: Hymns for a Kid's Heart is a wonderful series for family devotions and for teaching classic hymns to your children. The musical arrangements are more in line with current 'pop' music than traditional organ playing, but many children will find this sound similar to what they frequently hear. With the combination of singing, history, devotional, and prayer, these books will be an outstanding addition to a homeschooling family's daily life.
