Bible Based Writing Lessons in Structure & Style offers thirty-one lessons to complement Andrew Pudewa's program, Teaching Writing Structure & Style. This book is meant to be used by parents and students who are already familiar with the Institute for Excellence in Writing technique.

Lessons begin with the most basic concepts of Mr. Pudewa's method and progress in complexity. Early units allow the student to practice taking notes and writing from them and summarizing stories and references. These basic lessons may be skipped if the student is already proficient in the method. Later units emphasize the "stylistic decorations" (conversation, similes, metaphors, etc.) and the more advanced topics of research reports, creative writing, and essays. The final unit teaches one how to write a critique. All of the components introduced in Mr. Pudewa's workshop and video are briefly reviewed in this text.

Each lesson begins with a story or related sections from the Bible. Multiple versions (KJV, RSV, Modern Language, etc.) are used to give different sources and wordings to the student, but families are invited to use their preferred version for all lessons if desired. The assignment is presented next in a step-by-step format with a model of the technique shown in the first lesson of each unit. The "tools and suggestions" sections of each lesson offer ideas, specific approaches, and a beginning outline of the composition to be written. The checksheet for the lesson shows the expectations for three levels of writing proficiency, A through C.

Recommendation: Bible Based Writing Lessons in Structure & Style is a "must-buy" for Christian families using Andrew Pudewa's writing method. The book provides a well-organized, systematic implementation of his technique using material that Christian families value most.
