Location: Colorado | My best advice to start with is to shop only the perimeter of the store if possible. That is where you will find the veges, fruits, meats... The real trouble is up and down the aisles. The more fresh you eat, the better. It will seem more expensive at first as the processed foods are priced cheaper, so you can get more in your cart/cupboard shelves for "less" BUT the expense of the health problems that comes from eating the processed (boxed/bagged/preservative filled) foods far out weighs the cost of the "closer to how God created them" foods in the long run.
Butter over margarine, olive oil is good, baking over frying, spices are wonderful, experiment. Try to eliminate white sugar, white flour, white foods in general. The more natural color of the food, usually the more nutrients. Just some basics beginning steps to start. |
