Brian Ray, president of the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), compiles results of many studies into this fascinating handbook. Using profiles of leading Christian families who homeschool, he lays out the facts and the human side of homeschooling in an organized and easy-to-follow format.

The small volume covers much ground. The author begins with a brief discussion of common objections, and then overviews homeschooling in countries other than the United States. Next he explores the history of homeschooling and how the demographics of homeschoolers are changing. Mr. Ray moves on to information about the results of homeschooling and homeschooling's effect on the family. The broader idea of how homeschooling can impact society is then addressed. The author finishes the book with how to get started and with answers to many questions normally asked by those considering homeschooling. The appendix shows support groups in many countries around the world.

Recommendation: Worldwide Guide to Homeschooling is an incredible resource to carry for quick reference when those well-meaning friends and relatives start their objections to homeschooling. With the flip of a few pages, the homeschooling parent has access to studies that will allay the fears of the most outspoken relative. Additionally the results of these studies will bring confidence to parents who may be wondering if they really can homeschool successfully.

For anyone who would like to know the state of affairs in homeschooling, this well-written and logical book is an enjoyable read. The increasing popularity of homeschooling is changing the look of the stereotypical homeschooler, but the information provided in Worldwide Guide to Homeschooling clearly shows that homeschooling is beneficial for both the child and the family.
