In Upgrade, Kevin Swanson says, "A successful education is achieved when a child is prepared to make maximal use of his God-given talents and abilities in the accomplishment of the child's calling." This quotation is indicative of Mr. Swanson's interest in celebrating children's differences, while at the same time showing how building a foundation using his ten principles will prepare the child "intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and physically for life and for eternity."
The author's research of the principle of education as it relates to the Bible results in a profound discovery. The book of Proverbs is almost completely advice from a father training his son. So, the author proposes that perhaps God is not concerned with math, geography, and grammar, but rather the primary focus of education should be on character.
Mr. Swanson uses personal experiences to bring life to his ten "secrets." His frequent questions in the text provoke thought in the reader. The book concludes with a call to action for parents to take a more active role in all aspects of their children's education.
Recommendation: Upgrade will be particularly valuable reading to young families, but Mr. Swanson's wisdom and insight will breathe new life into parents of older children. His important message is presented in a style that is easy-to-read. Christian parents will find Upgrade enjoyable, inspiring, and motivating.
