Song of the U.S. Presidents

by Sue Dickson

Purchase details: Song of the U.S. Presidents by Sue Dickson. Published by Pearson Learning. Currently out of print.

Sue Dickson, author of Sing, Spell, Read, and Write, has put together a simple song to teach all of the presidents who have governed the United States. Recommended for ages five and up, Song of the U.S. Presidents kit includes a cassette, 8 1/2" by 11" lyric sheets for the presidents and the song "America," and an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet with pictures of all the presidents interspersed with the lyrics of the song.

The songs are sung by a group of school children in an informal fashion. The presidents song is sung twice with words. Then music without words is played twice, followed by two more iterations with words. The back of the tape has the same children singing all four verses of America.

Recommendation: The presidents song is catchy, but it is a bit difficult to understand the children unless you are looking at the words. Music almost always makes it easier to memorize facts, but keep in mind that you are getting just two songs on this tape. resources related to this review:'s History Section where you will find many "living" history resources!
