Wendy Lawton creates character-strengthening novels based on reality TV shows in the RealTV series. Four books are included in the series, and two were provided for review: Less is More, and Dating Do-Over.

The third book in the series, Less is More, tells the story of Abby, a high school girl struggling to find a new direction after her father's death. The stress of her recent cross-country move, and a new school and youth group leads her to find refuge in emotional eating. Disgusted with her overweight figure, and shocked by the painful teasing from the kids at her youth group, she loses confidence in herself and begins to question her circumstances. A solution to her problems occurs when her PE coach registers her for the reality TV show "Less is More", and she is accepted! However, being accepted is the easy part of the challenge! Can her faith in God and in her friends carry her through the trials along the way?

Dating Do-Over, the final book in the series, tells the story of the unpopular Bailey. Bailey knows that it's best to be herself.... but the senior prom is coming up, and the boy she wants to go with doesn't seem to notice her! Her friend, Jenn, organizes all sorts of out-of-the-ordinary makeover tricks, but they all seem to backfire. Thankfully, Jenn's brother, is involved in the filming of the popular TV show, Dating Do-Over, and when he introduces her to the producers, they select Bailey as the next contestant for the show. When the whole school gets involved, Bailey suddenly becomes extremely popular. Then she discovers the meaning of true friendship.

Recommendation: The girls featured in the RealTV series have issues that most high-school girls share. In both books, Abby and Bailey lean on God and their friends to help them find the right path. These novels can help girls grow in their faith.
