Homeschooling mothers Paula Reetz and Sherri MacLean were trying to come up with activities to keep their toddlers busy while the older children did school. Their brainstorm for creating "activities in a bag" was a stroke of good fortune for themselves and other busy parents.

The concept that the authors of Preschool Activities in a Bag discovered is brilliantly simple: make activities that fit in one gallon Ziplock bags to be ready for preschoolers at a moment's notice. The idea of a special, unknown activity just for them is bound to captivate young children.

Preschool Activities in a Bag has detailed instructions to assemble each activity bag. Book 1 contains thirty-four projects that include color, letter, , number, and matching skills, among others. Reproducible pages of puzzle pieces and other parts needed for the bags are found in the back of the book. Book 2 has another thirty-three activities with similar skills covered. The activity directions in Book 2 are organized next to the reproducible pages making the assembly of projects even easier.

Few parents will have time and materials to make enough activities on their own. Consequently, the authors have included detailed instructions on how to do a "swap." Parents in the swap make enough of just one project to give that particular bag activity to everyone in the swap group. This results in each parent going home with as many projects as there are people in the group.

Mrs. Reetz and Mrs. MacLean offer many tips for success. They also suggest other ways to use the activities such as sending them to missionaries and using them in the church preschool. The authors' website has answers to frequently asked questions.

Recommendation: Preschool Activities In a Bag is a blessing to parents! The authors found a way both to captivate preschoolers and also to encourage fellowship among preschool parents via the swap. The activities are simple, but will be meaningful to little ones. Mrs. Reetz and Mrs. MacLean have come up with an outstanding idea to help homeschooling families be more efficient and have more fun!
