Christine Miller, classical homeschooling enthusiast and author, has added The Story of the Renaissance and Reformation to other "living" history titles published by her company Nothing New Press. This book is a compilation of chapters from two Charlotte Yonge books and two H.A. Guerber books with additional original material from Mrs. Miller's research.

After a review of the feudal system, the story starts in Italy around 1200 and stretches across many countries of Europe to the year 1660. The author has attempted to present these tumultuous years objectively by showing both good and bad examples of Protestant and Catholic people and behaviors. Key players of the time, including rulers, Popes, clergy, and artists, are presented in a way that encourages the family to continue discussions about character and Godliness.

The book is illustrated with black and white reproductions of classic art, maps, photos, and drawings. A timeline, recommended additional reading, bibliography, and index complete the volume.

Recommendation: The Story of the Renaissance and Reformation holds more information than many students receive in a college-level world history course, yet the book is written at a level that can reach across the entire family. The storybook format is appropriate for reading aloud to younger students, while the fact that many chapters focus on one person allows older students to pursue research topics easily. With its charming illustrations, The Story of the Renaissance and Reformation is an excellent addition to the shelves of Charlotte Mason and classical homeschoolers.
