Purchase details: Lingua Biblica by Martin Cothran, Paperback, 150 pages, $19.95. Published by Memoria Press. Please support by buying this book using our Christian Book Distributors link.

Lingua Biblica is a supplement to Latin studies. Subtitled "Old Testament Stories in Latin," it uses slightly modified selections from the Latin Vulgate Bible for readings and exercises. The program is keyed to use with Henle Latin I, but can be used with any high school Latin curriculum.

Each of the thirty lessons begins with a Bible story such as Creation, Joseph and the Pharaoh, and David and Goliath. Vocabulary words and translation notes appear below the story and on the facing page. Then three levels of exercises follow. Level 1 corresponds to the first Memoria Press Henle Latin I Guide while Level 2 corresponds to the second Guide. Level 3, for advanced students, asks the students to translate the complete story and also to answer questions about it. A vocabulary list with translations is at the end of the book.

The Teacher Manual has all student pages reproduced in full size. Answers are shown on the exercise worksheets. Both the Teacher Manual and the Student Book are comb-bound. Because the books are not reproducible, parents will need to buy a Student Book for each child.

Recommendation: Lingua Biblica makes studying the Latin Vulgate simple! With Mr. Cothan's straightforward method, students will learn Latin and have Bible studies reinforced. Lingua Biblica will be an outstanding supplement to any advanced Latin program. resources related to this review:
