Purchase details: Five Little Pumpkins Project Pack by In The Hands of a Child. Comb-bound paperback. $9.00.
Katie Kubesh, Niki McNeil, and Kimm Bellotto have combined their skills to produce a series of unit study guides. Five Little Pumpkins is the example provided for review.
Designed for pre-K and kindergarten, this unit study has activities for five days. Children learn a simple counting poem; color and assemble a counting book; work with shapes, colors, the letter P, and numbers 1-5; and do simple addition. The week concludes with a pumpkin seed spitting contest. Several books are listed on the "Recommended Reading" page.
The In the Hands of a Child study guides explain how to make project folders to display the child's work. By refolding a standard file folder, the child can make a miniature version of a display such as the ones used in science fairs.
Purchasers of the book are authorized to make one copy of the written material and as many copies of the graphics as needed for all students.
Recommendation: The project folders are a unique and appealing way to show off a child's work. While the guide seems a bit expensive for just five days of work, homeschooling parents will find the Project Pack simple to use and convenient.
