In Famous Figures of Ancient Times, artist and author Cathy Diez-Luckie brings ancient history to life with paper dolls of twenty historical characters.
The book begins with mini-biographies of the twenty men (and Hannibal's elephant!) of ancient times, including people from Egypt, China, Assyria, Babylon, Greece, and Rome. Characters from Biblical and church history, Moses, King David, Jesus, and St. Augustine, are also included.
The figures are printed on card stock paper to be more durable during play time, and each page is perforated so it can be easily removed from the book to cut out the figure. The figures may have a few or many moving parts such as legs, arms, swords, and shields. (Parents need to purchase brads to fasten the parts together.) Two copies of each figure are provided: one with full color printing and the other as a black and white outline, ready to be colored by the student.
Recommendation: Famous Figures of Ancient Times is a fun way to make history more real for younger students. After learning about the character, children can narrate a story using the figures or act out historical events as they think they may have happened. The Famous Figures series includes other eras from history and is bound to increase your children's enthusiasm for their studies.
