The Drawing Breakthrough Kit uses a simple but effective method to familiarize students with drawing. Students begin by tracing the basic outlines of a simple composition, and then free-handing the rest of the picture, using the completed picture on the exercise sheet as a guide. As the student becomes more advanced, the exercises have fewer starting lines and grid markings, so eventually the student can completely draw the picture on his own.
The exercise compositions include a "breakfast" composition, with a milk carton, bowl-and-saucer, and cup; a horse head, and a dog head. Additionally, the student is encouraged to practice the circles, squares, and ellipses exercise sheets regularly throughout the course. These sheets help the student practice drawing simple shapes while improving their overall line-drawing skills.
The Drawing Breakthrough Kit contains everything the student will need to complete the program; the practice sheets, a pad of specially-sized tracing paper, two felt-tipped pens, and a roll of tape are all included. The 44-page book, printed on heavy-duty paper to withstand frequent use, is held together with a single metal ring in the corner. This makes it highly maneuverable; it can be twisted different ways to help with drawing, and pages can be removed if desired.
