Quilting

An Interview with Donna P.

How did you get started?

Not really sure how I got started to tell you the truth. I was pregnant with my oldest and wanted to make something for her that would last - I ended up making a baby quilt that all three of my children used. I've made them all quilts of one type or another plus quilts for family members as well as friends.

What materials and costs are involved?

The big expense is the material itself unless of course you do not have a sewing machine. I do a lot of handquilting and only a little machine quilting and that I do on my sewing machine. I do not have a long arm yet or a quilting frame that I can use with my current sewing machine. I have bought a few quilting books but most quilting information you can now find online.

How does it bless you or others?

I have always enjoyed makig things for people and quilting them a blanket, a table runner, or anything else is not different. I want to make something that will last and can be handed down from one person to another. There are also many wonderful organizations that take donations of quilts - Quilts of Valor is one where quilts are given to injured soldiers or sailors.
