Learn Plus
LearnPlus produces and offers a variety of free interactive online language courses designed to teach foreign languages by exploiting the interactive communication capabilities of the Internet. Students have the direct support of a personal tutor, and features a placement check. Spanish, German, Italian, French, Japanese, English. No longer free, but according to one of our ladies, it's still well worth the approximately $13 they charge for a 6 month course.

Latin/Foreign Language Activities

Scrapbook Have your homeschool scholar embark on a Scavenger Hunt on everything he/she can find out about the country or countries that speak (or spoke) the language he/she is learning. Include how holidays are celebrated, great historical personages, types of food/housing/clothing, etc.

Newspaper As your student becomes more fluent in the language of his/her choice, go to the Civics/Current Events pages (see below) and select the links for newspapers on line for a country that language is spoken. First, have your student read a newspaper article reading it in the language and, then, translate it for the parent.
