100 Best Books of the 20th Century by Cattermole is an excellent list, and it has both novels and picture books.
100 Picture Books Everyone Should Know from the New York Public Library.
1,000 Good Books from Classical Christian Homeschooling, divided by grade level. This is one of the best reading lists available, and also divides up the grade levels up by ability.
Benjamin Franklin Awards from the Publisher's Marketing Assocation which recognizes excellence in independent publishing. Publications, grouped by genre, are judged on editorial and design merit by top practitioners in each field.
Book Page includes excellent book reports by Beverly Schmitt from a Christian worldview.
John Burrough List of Nature Books for Young Readers This list is great! From the John Burroughs Association with the American Museum of Natural History Library.

The Lancaster Day School has excellent, challenging lists for middle school and high school, mostly based on classics.
Landmark Books from Leola's Good Books. A listing of Landmark Books by chronological or alphabetical order.
Morton Grove Public Library has some great booklists, including a "Talking Animal" list. Beware of non-Christian books.
Newbery Award Winners List from the American Library Association. Consider carefully before reading any book written after 1960.
Peter Rabbit Classic Club has a great classic picture book list.
Paula's Archives History List A great list of literature to supplement your history studies by time period.
Salt Lake County Library System, grades 1 thru 6, with a short description given for each book.
Tried and True Picture Books from the Highland Park Public Library, Highland Park, IL.
Travel Back Through Time is a book list created by the Monroe County Public Library that has historical novels from American history, starting in 1989 and going backwards to pre-Columbus.
